JEE mains 2021 marks vs percentile vs rank: Calculate your Rank

The time after the JEE Mains 2021 is of calculations, assumptions and hope. The National Testing Agency would be conducting JEE Mains 2021 in multiple sessions. Subsequently, the marks would be normalized according to the difficulty level of the sessions. Normalization of the marks may be the first thing that confuses students or makes most of them anxious about it. Criteria formulated after evaluating the difficulty level would be pursued by the NTA for normalization of the percentage.

JEE main 2021 score is the crucial factor that would determine the eligibility for appearing in the JEE main central counselling, as well as, enable the student to appear for JEE Advanced exam. Being a JEE aspirant, you might be aware that JEE Main counselling is conducted for admission to NITs, IIITs, IIEST and GFTIs. On the other hand, JEE Advanced exam is the entry point to IITs, the elite technical institution in the country.

We have ascertained the grading and percentile calculations for presuming the rank calculations. The table we provide here is for a general understanding of the students concerning the ranking. Hence, the same may not be considered a yardstick.

JEE Mains 2021 Marks Vs Percentile Vs Rank

The National Testing Agency would be using the normalization formulae for obtaining the percentile of each of the JEE aspirants. It would be implemented after perfect scrutiny to prevent complaints and allegations from the students or parents. The percentile for JEE Mains 2021 would be prepared for individual subjects initially, i.e. for Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

Post preparing the subject percentile, the aggregate percentile would be determined. The JEE Mains merit list would be based on the percentile of each student. The NTA has decided to find percentile up to 7 decimals. This is intended to prevent ties in the merit list.

Difficulty level would be different whenever an exam is conducted in multiple sessions. It may happen that some of the sessions might get easy questions, whereas some others will have difficult ones. This can lead to complaints from the candidates. Moreover, a bright student, who has toile day in and day out to crack JEE Mains, may go down in merit list due to the extremely difficult questionnaire. The normalization is expected to preclude such a scenario. It will help the authority to assess the aspirants with respect to the difficulty level of the JEE Mains 2021 questions.

How To Calculate the JEE Mains Rank Based on the Percentile

The NTA would prepare the rank list according to the percentile obtained by each candidate. The normally pursued procedure for finalizing the rank list is enumerated below.

  • Top in percentile tops the rank list. The rank list is in descending order.
  • The percentile in Maths would be the deciding factor in case of a tie in the overall percentile.
  • In the rarest of the rare circumstances, both total percentile and percentile in Maths may be the same for two students. The percentile of Physics would be considered in that case. If that is also the same, the percentile of Chemistry would turn into a decisive factor.
  • If two or more students have the same percentile in total as well as all the subjects, the age of the student would decide the rank of each, i.e. the older student gets the preference.
  • There had been occasions, wherein two students of the same age scored the same percentile in all aspects. The students were awarded the same rank in that scenario.
