NEET Exam Day Checklist: What to Carry and What Not

The National Testing Agency conducts the National Eligibility Entrance Test every year for medical aspirants in the country and abroad. With NEET 2023 right around the corner, one needs to prepare in the best way possible to avoid any last minute mistakes. 

As it is an exam conducted on a large scale, it will require equal participation of both the students and respective centers for a smooth conduction of the examination. Being aware of the rules and regulations and the respective guidelines can help make the entire process smooth without any hiccups. 

The important aspects that one has to follow according to NTA guidelines are as follows:

Timeline of the exam

The students should have a good understanding of the timeline of the exam, as it can help them plan days before the exam arrives. Here are some of the important things that need to be discussed on exam day:

  • Date of Exam: May 7, 2023
  • Timing of the exam: From 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Total duration of the exam: 3 hours and 20 minutes.
  • The exam hall can be occupied starting at 1:15 PM.
  • The last entry time into the exam hall: 1:30 PM.
  • The invigilator verifies the admit card and other particulars from 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM.
  • The exam booklets will be distributed at 1:45 PM, and the students can fill in the details on them with extreme caution.
  • At 2:00 PM, the students are expected to start answering the questions.

Dress Code for the Exam Day

It is ideal to be aware of the dress code that needs to be followed on the day of the exam. It might cost you your exam if you are inappropriately dressed, which is going to be very stressful right before the exam. The NTA has already listed the dress code that has to be maintained on the day of exam.

Dress code for female students:

  • Keep the dress simple and avoid the ones with too much design and additions like laces and frills.
  • Long and fancy sleeve shirts, tops, or kurtas are not allowed.
  • Short sleeved dresses are only permitted in the exam hall.
  • All kinds of jewelry, both metallic and non-metallic, have to be avoided.
  • Open footwear is the only thing allowed.
  • No shoes or fancy footwear like heels, stilettos, or boots are allowed.

Dress code for male students:

  • Full sleeve shirts and t-shirts are not allowed.
  • The clothes should not have any pockets, and the dresses should not be layered.
  • Make sure to wear simple shirts and pants.
  • Kurtas and pajamas have to be avoided.
  • Concealing footwear like boots, shoes, and the like has to be avoided, and simple and open sandals can be worn.

Things That Are Not Allowed or Barred from the Exam Center

The NTA has listed the number of items that have to be avoided at all costs from being brought into the exam center. They are as follows:

  • Ornaments: rings, bracelets, earrings, nose pins, chains, necklaces, badges, brooches, etc.
  • Stationery: any sort of written material, pouches, pens, pencils, erasers, scales, writing pads, bits of paper, pen drives, calculators, log tables, etc.
  • Communication devices: earphones, mobile phones, tablets, smart watch, pager, microphones, etc.
  • Eatables: water bottle, packed or unpacked food items.
  • Others: wallets, amulets, hairpin, hairband, scarf, cap, etc. 

Instructions to Be Followed on the NEET Exam Day

  • The candidates should carry their NEET 2023 admit card with them at all times.
  • They should arrive at least one hour prior to the commencement of the exam.
  • The students should only have only with them the admit card, passport size photograph, and a valid ID proof. Any other items cannot be carried inside the exam hall.
  • There will be no provision whatsoever for keeping your valuables, like wallets and other items that come under the barred list. It is ideal not to carry such items while coming for the exam. 
  • The pen required to attempt the exam will be provided in the exam hall.
  • The candidates will be allowed to leave the examination hall only after the examination hours are over. If they finish early, the students will have to sit out the entire three hours and 20 minutes. 
  • The attempted answer booklet has to be submitted before leaving the examination hall.
  • Batches of 15 girls and 15 boys will be allowed at a time into the registration hall for the NEET examination. Thermal scanning, frisking, and the verification of the ID proof will be conducted at the registration center.
  • Once the documents are verified, the invigilator will lead the candidate to the seats allocated for the students. 

Important Points – Exam Day Guidelines

  • The important documents that need to be carried to the examination hall will include an admit card, a valid ID proof, passport size photographs, and a PwD certificate (to whomever is applicable).
  • The last entry time for the candidates into the exam hall is 1:30 PM, and after that, nobody will be allowed.
  • Make sure to follow the dress code prescribed to avoid unnecessary hassles at the last minute of the exam.
  • Each candidate will be provided a seat and roll number. They should only be seated in the allocated space. 
  • The posture should be upright so that the recording camera gets the correct view of your face.
  • Make sure the test booklet is intact and has the prescribed number of pages.
